The small and medium enterprises are playing a significant role to reduce poverty by increasing households’ income and generating employment in Bangladesh. Among all small and medium enterprises handloom has occupied the most important position and historically it has got its predominance and heritages in Bangladesh. Despite the constraints of the financial condition of these small and micro enterprises, they have the potential to become a powerful engine for employment and poverty elimination in developing countries like Bangladesh.

The tradition of weaving cloth by hand constitutes one of the richest aspects of Bangladesh culture and heritage. In the early 17th century, the handloom sector of the Indian sub-continent and more particularly of the areas presently comprising Bangladesh gained a high degree of efficiency for producing quality products. The products were highly praised and admired throughout the world and used to be expected all over the world. The power loom industry is one of the weaving hubs of the country an important segment of the decentralized cotton textile industry in Bangladesh.

The power loom industry weaves cotton by power-operated machines or looms and works into a fabric with the help of a warp in the form of beam and weft directly through bobbins. Shirajganj, Pabna, Kushtia, Naogaon, Narayanganj, Tangail, Narsingdi districts are most prominent for independent weaving units. The power loom industry plays a significant role in the lives of the rural people, particularly women have been identified as a significant number of women to be involved in the various roles of this industry.

To ensure environmental and financial sustainability of loom enterprise in Sirajganj district we
are trying-

i.To improve product quality by introducing modern technology and modern design, produce
diversified products and ensure environmental and business sustainability by increasing
productivity.

ii. To reduce the environmental hazards; water, sound, and soil pollution caused by the loom
enterprises.

iii. To expand the semi-automatic and fully automatic loom in the project area.

iv. To help the entrepreneurs in the project area for using environment friendly and modern
technology to produce loom products.

v.To create awareness among the entrepreneurs to Eco-levelling their products and help them to
enter the premium market and develop a specific brand for the area.

vi. To help to increase the technical knowledge and capabilities of the MEs in the project area.
