Sustainable Enterprise Project (SEP) is jointly financed by Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and the World Bank. The objective of SEP is to increase the adaptation of environmentally sustainable practices by targeted microenterprises. SEP has selected 30 lead districts as the project working area to demonstrate the project impact on different sub-sectors. The project prioritizes a selected number of polluting microenterprises business clusters and supports the expansion of innovative economic activities conducive to a more sustainable environment.

National Development Programme (NDP) is implementing “Improving the Quality of Traditional Bengali Clothing by reducing environmental consequences of Loom enterprises in Sirajganj” sub project Under SEP in Sirajganj Sadar, Kamarkhanda and Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj district. This 30 months (october 2020 – April 2023) sub project will support the achievement of the global goals of the main SEP project. The sub-project activities will be implemented in the business clusters of the “Loom” subsector to improve the overall business and environment of the microenterprises.

The goal of the sub project is to increase the adoption of environmentally sustainable practices by the loom enterprises to become environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Objective & Components

Project Objective

1. To improve product quality by introducing modern technology and modern design, produce diversified products, and ensuring environmental and business sustainability by increasing productivity.

2. To reduce the environmental hazards; water, sound, and soil pollution caused by the loom enterprises.

3. To expansion of semi-automatic and full automatic loom in the project area.

4. To help the entrepreneurs in the project area for using environment friendly and modern technology to produce loom products.

5. To create awareness among the entrepreneurs to Eco-levelling their products and help them to enter the premium market and develop a specific brand for the area.

6. To helps to increase the technical knowledge and capabilities of the MEs in the project area.

Project Components

The project will consist of three components:

  1.  Enhancing services and enabling systems
  2. Strengthened access to finance for commercially viable environmentally friendly and resilient microenterprises.
  3. Project management, knowledge management, and monitoring and evaluation. The project will prioritize

3.1 A selected number of polluting microenterprise business clusters that can reduce emissions and increase resource efficiency.

3.2 The expansion of innovative economic activities that contribute to environmentally friendly clean and green business and climate resilience.
